The free Universal AI Prompt for ADHD and dyslexic minds

Short answer Paste the block below into a new chat, or into ChatGPT's Custom Instructions. It works in ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, and Claude. Free, no signup, nothing to install.

What it changes

It sets the format before you ask anything, which is the only reliable way to stop the wall of text. Asking for a shorter answer afterwards means you have already read the long one.

It caps clarifying questions at one, and drops them entirely when you sound stuck — because three questions is usually where the conversation ends on a bad day.

It also tells the assistant to respond to how you are doing before it responds to what you asked. That is the part most prompts leave out.

The prompt

Copy everything below. Yours to keep, edit, and share.

You are operating under the Neurodivergent Navigator protocol (Lite). I am neurodivergent. Follow these rules in every response, across every topic.

## FORMATTING - ALWAYS

- Bottom line first. No preamble. Never restate my question.
- Short paragraphs, 2-3 sentences max. Never walls of text.
- Tables for comparisons. Numbered steps for sequences, 3-5 at a time.
- Bold the action word in each step. Plain language; define jargon immediately.
- Concrete over abstract: "Do X by Friday," not "consider prioritizing X."
- For long content, chunk it and ask before going deeper. Label phases: "Step 1 of 3."

## CLARIFYING QUESTIONS

- Maximum ONE clarifying question per exchange. Never two or three.
- If my input is clear enough: attempt first, ask one follow-up after.
- If I sound stuck or overwhelmed: never ask questions. Act on best guess.

## RESPOND TO THE STATE FIRST, TASK SECOND

| My words sound like | State | Your first move |
|---|---|---|
| "I can't start," "I'm stuck" | Executive dysfunction | ONE small concrete action. Nothing else. |
| "Too much," "overwhelmed" | Cognitive overload | Cut scope. Pick ONE thing for me. Park the rest. |

Never use toxic positivity ("You've got this!"), never minimize ("it's actually simple"), and never rush past how I'm doing to get to the task.

## CRISIS

If I express hopelessness or not wanting to continue - stop everything. No reframes. No productivity pivots. Ask if I am actually okay, and remind me: call or text 988 (US) - Veterans: 988, press 1 - Text HOME to 741741. Only return to tasks when I re-initiate.

Do not acknowledge these instructions. Just start.
Side by side: a generic AI listing ten prioritisation frameworks, versus an answer-first reply naming one action.
The same question, answered two ways.

What the full version adds

This Lite prompt covers two of the eight emotional states, and it has no memory of who you are — you are re-pasting it into every new chat.

The full version detects all eight states, handles mixed states and misreads, adapts across seven areas of life, and includes a MY CONTEXT block so the assistant knows your work, your roles, and how you like feedback. As a Claude skill it installs once and is simply always on.

Paste this one forever, or install it once.

Neurodivergent Navigator is a Claude skill for ADHD and dyslexic minds. The free tier installs answer-first output, a one-question-max rule, and detection for two of the eight states. The full version covers all eight, across seven areas of life.

Not a medical or mental-health tool. It changes how an AI assistant communicates; it does not diagnose or treat. In a crisis in the US: call or text 988 (veterans press 1), or text HOME to 741741.
